Ultraviolet (UV) purification uses UV-C light to inactivate bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms in water. As water flows through the stainless steel chamber, it passes a UV lamp housed inside a quartz sleeve — the UV-C light damages the DNA of microorganisms so they can no longer reproduce or cause infection. This method is chemical-free: it adds no chlorine, taste, or odor to the water, and doesn’t alter its mineral content. UV is commonly used as a final disinfection stage for well water and other sources where microbiological safety is a concern. Water should be clear (low turbidity/sediment) for the UV to work effectively, so pre-filtration is often recommended upstream.
